how to do a clue easter egg hunt
i used to do a little easter egg hunt with my big girl on easter sunday. we never really did the easter bunny in scotland when growing up. we were too busy rolling our easter eggs down hill and getting traumatised by watching our precious chocolate roll away. maybe to add an easter bunny into the mix would be too terrifying. Do you roll your eggs? it is meant to represent the rolling away of the stone at jesus tomb. i roll mine now just for good luck. the Scottish took this tradition over to America and each year apparently they do egg rolling at the White House.
Zaria would not sleep in her own bed last night due to the thought of a large easter bunny coming into the house, so her big sister put a note on the front door for the bunny not to come in the house. Then the bunny left a note on the door with a first clue leading to another clue, luckily Zaria did not question how other clues got in the house as that would mean the bunny go in the house, so be prepared to answer this question if your little one is scared of the easter bunny too.
so, here is how to do a simple 10 clue easter hunt. you are welcome to use the rhymes i have made for yours, or make your own simple rhyme. if you do a clue for each room in the house this way there is lots of running around before the eating of chocolate!
- put the first rhyme on the front door… “hello (insert name) this is your very first clue! what do you have to do? go and look in your shoe!”
- in a shoe… “well done! that’s great, now go to somewhere you would find a plate!”
- in the kitchen cupboard… “again well done, hope you’re having fun. now go to where the washing is done!”
- in the washing machine… “now you have to go upstairs and have a look in all your bears!”
- in the toy box… “are you having good time? do you need a wee? is there a clue there? go and see!”
- in the bathroom (not in the toilet)… “for clue number 7 you will have to go, down into the garden where the seeds all grow”
- in a plant pot… “back upstairs to bed now, have a little sleep, maybe under pillows you should have a peep”
- under a pillow… “back downstairs to watch TV, is there a clue? go look and see!”
- at the TV… “next, somewhere that has four legs but no feet, why don’t you go have a little seat.”
- stuck under the table or a chair… “final clue, you’ve done so good, back to the kitchen with the cold food!”
then they find their big easter egg or present 🙂
at each clue you could also leave small chocolate eggs or a chocolate lolly.
Happy Easter. jen x
